island、isle、islet 都是『岛』

说到岛屿，如果你曾经翻看过英文地图或国外旅游杂志，可能会发现除了 island，isle、islet、peninsula 等词也常用来指称「岛屿」。这些字可以互用吗？彼此之间又有什么异同呢？来认识一下吧！ 「岛」的各种称呼 ◎ island 岛、岛屿 四面环水、在最 *** 线时仍露出水面的陆块。不同岛屿有不同称呼，例如： ● volcanic island 火山岛 ● tropical island 热带岛 ● desert island 荒岛 ● uninhabited island 无人岛 ● offshore island 近海岛屿、离岸岛屿 A: Would you like to visit the tropical island off the eastern coast?（你想去拜访东部海岸的那座热带岛屿吗？） B: Sure! That island is home to a lot of rare birds and animals. I can’t wait to see them. （当然！那座岛是许多稀有鸟类和动物的家园。我等不及要去看它们了。） ◎ isle 岛、岛屿 多用于「岛名」或「文学作品」。例如： ● Isle of Wight 怀特岛 ● Isle of Lewis 路易斯岛 ● the British Isles 不列颠群岛 A: Any plans for spring break?（春假有什么计画吗？） B: I plan to visit the western tip of the Isle of Wight. I heard the view is stunning there.（我打算去拜访怀特岛的西端。我听说那儿的景色令人惊叹。） ◎ islet 小岛 文学用词，指「非常小的岛屿」。 On the far side of the islet stands an ancient lighthouse built 300 years ago.（小岛远处另一端矗立著一座三百年前建造的古老灯搭。） ◎ atoll 环状珊瑚岛 When the tide rises, seawater flows into the lagoon and submerges part of the atoll.（涨潮时，海水涌进了环礁湖、淹没了部分环状珊瑚岛。） ◎ peninsula 半岛 三面环海，一面连接陆地的陆块。 We looked out the car window and saw a long, narrow peninsula pointing toward the east.（我们望向车窗外，看见一座向东边指去的狭长半岛。） ◎ archipelago 群岛、岛群、列岛 一连串岛屿组成的地形。 The Hawaiian archipelago, posed of eight major volcanic islands, several atolls, and numerous islets, is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world.（由八个主要火山岛、数个环状珊瑚岛及无数小岛组成的夏威夷群岛，是全世界最受欢迎的旅游景点之一。） 学会「岛屿」的各种说法后，下次发现有人分不清各种称呼时，就可以告诉他们如何区别罗！
